Fun Date with Hubby

Late last week, I sent a quick text to my sister and asked if she would be available to watch the kids on Sunday so Bo & I could go out. She's a great aunt and a great sister, so she agreed!

On Sunday, after Mass and lunch, she came over and Bo & I headed out. We took in an afternoon matinee of Sherlock Holmes - which was very enjoyable and I think Downey & Law did a fabulous job! I confess I've never read any of the Sherlock Holmes stories (I don't really know how that happened, but it's true.) I'll remedy that soon, as I've added a collection of Arthur Conan Doyle's works to my Kindle.

After the movie, we enjoyed an early dinner at Outback Steakhouse. The first meal I was served was lukewarm to cold, and the pork was overdone. When I mentioned it to our server, they made up a second meal for me that was nice and hot. I usually prefer my food to be warm, vs. hot, but that first meal wasn't even appealing to me! The second plate looked much nicer, however, and was hot and the pork cooked perfectly.

It was still light out when we left, and we didn't quite feel like going home just yet. We decided to head to a local park and take a walk together, and Bo suggested we search for some geocaches while we were there. We ended up finding four before it got too dark to search for more. We knew the kids would be jealous that we went without them, but it was fun to search together. In years past we had a lot of joint goals and worked together at many things (it helped that we owned a business together) but we don't seem to have as many joint goals (other than the kids, of course) lately. I miss that, as I really like working with him to solve problems and see the results of our teamwork.

It was a very nice date, and even though before I was married I thought it was funny that married people would "date" I can definitely see the positive it can bring to a relationship.

  1. That sounds really nice. It really makes a difference in our relationship with hubby and I get to do something like that, just the two of us, at least once or twice a month.

  2. That sounds great, Melanie! I remember when our kids were younger we tried to have a date night a couple of times a month. Ironically, as the kids have gotten older and we don't need to arrange for babysitters, we've gotten out of the habit. I'll have to remedy that! Thanks for the reminder.
