Today is D.E.A.R Day!

Today is D.E.A.R. Day!  I didn't know what that meant either, until I checked out the website.  D.E.A.R. stands for "Drop Everything And Read"  What a great idea!

I've always loved books, and was lucky enough to grow up in a house full of books and book-lovers. My love of books has carried down to my children, and they all love a trip to the library or local bookstore. We read quite a bit in this house, and I love the idea of encouraging reading in every house! (Watch for my update later this week on the boys' reading fundraiser. They did amazing.)

The recommendation is to drop everything and read for 30 minutes. Maybe we'll make today a day of read-alouds and let everyone read aloud for 30 minutes. In addition to the books everyone is reading on their own, we also have 2 different read-alouds going at the moment (Lightning Thief and Mossflower)

Today is also Beverly Cleary's birthday. I grew up reading her books, and my boys thoroughly enjoy the Ralph S.Mouse and Henry Huggins' adventures.  Did you know a Ramona movie is coming to theaters sometime this year?

Will you celebrate reading today?
